Hong Kong welcomes visitors and adopts an open visa policy. People from about 170 countries and territories may visit Hong Kong visa-free for 7 to 180 days. Any person who wishes to visit or transit Hong Kong but does not enjoy the visa waiver concession or wants to stay beyond the entitled visa-free period must obtain a visa / entry permit before coming. This entry arrangement does not apply to Chinese residents of the Mainland, Macao and Taiwan (other than People's Republic of China passport holders and Chinese residents of Taiwan living overseas).

Mainland residents who wish to enter Hong Kong as a visitor should obtain an Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao and an appropriate exit endorsement from the Mainland authorities.
